The links below are to sources for things you might consider having around the house in the event of interruptions in basic services and still accommodate the needs of your daily life. Sources for food, power, water storage and communications products, the things we usually consider as the basics. I've included these resources not to instill fear, but to provide a degree of comfort in knowing that you can be better prepared in the event of a minor or major inconvenience.
Of special note is a link in the Electrical Power section near the bottom of this page. The 100% FREE ENERGY link has some incredible technology that is being offered to the Canadian and American public at this time. This company is planning a major roll out of a technology which will allow you to make all the power you can use for your home. The company is looking for hosts to have this product installed on their homes in order to launch this technology at the grass roots level. The agreement states that the company will receive the excess power credits which would be credited to you as in a conventional wind/photovoltaic installation. What you will gain is free electrical power and the best part is when the grid goes down you WILL STILL generate electrical power for all your needs. I have personally reviewed all their material and signed up for the free intro program. This will be very cool if they can manage to introduce the product.

This is a detailed guide to building a food "insurance" program as the author calls it. The Morman Emergency Preparedness Manual is a very good source describing what should be done to prepare for a short or long term emergency. Worth reading before embarking on your plan.

Oxygen Absorbers and 6 Gallon Storage Containers
Nitro-Pak; Oxygen absorbers are used when storing dry foods for long periods. With the oxygen removed, storage foods keep their freshness and nutritional value much, much longer. So if you want to store grains, rice or whatever using these will help preserve the quality of that stored food. This site has absorbers for sale, more info and how best to use the absorbers.
Food Storage Containers; Get yours for FREE. Most places throw them away when they empty the contents. Just ask the dept manager at any Wal-Mart, Duncan Doughnuts or other food business. Stay away from pickle containers, these will have a vinegar odor that will linger a long time. Otherwise you can buy them from one of the disaster stores on the net and pay between $8.00 and $15.00 each.
Solar Stove - Oven
Make One For Yourself; You can easily spend a few hundred dollars buying a solar stove from one of the "Green" product distributors, they are very trendy at this time. Most stoves I have looked at are in the $350 range and they are not at all complex in their design. This site has over 30 different designs to chose from. You can easily make one in a couple of hours, honest. This is not Chinese math. They are quite small to store and just may make you very pleased with your ingenuity some day.

Burpee; Over 150 years in business selling seeds. Many emergency food suppliers also suggest storing seed assortments. "Heirloom" seeds have not been genetically modified (GM). Plants grown from GM seeds will not reproduce growable seeds for the subesquent growing season.
